    Default Hotel California Theories

I am aware that this is not the right thread for this, but mods will hopefully take care of moving this to it's correct location.

In case you haven't heard this song i'm gonna talk about, here you go:

    The Eagles - Hotel California

Yeah... People often think what's this song all about. It has no straight point. You have to think deeper, see behind the lyrics, to understand their true meaning.

So, this thread is about theories on this songs meaning. I'll tell you mine:

Drug addiction. Obviously. The part ''You can check out whenever you like, but you can never leave'' explains enough for me, because if you're drug addicted, you can allways pretend that you're gonna stop, but there is really no way to get rid of your stuff. They control you.

I won't explain anymore, because i know you people won't read even this. So, i'll leave the rest for ya.

Rachel Constantine: I was especially interested in the section on Arroway's video unit. The one that recorded the static?

Rachel Constantine: The fact that it recorded static isn't what interests me. What interests me is that it recorded approximately eighteen hours of it.

The thing is that video to me shows how little stage presence the band have. Seriously they're like a collective dead fish. It's either somehting to do with the band being totally tied down by the way that the front man is also drummer, or the fact that they hate each other so much that the tension on stage reaches the point where it's too awkward to do anything other than play.

Here's how it should be done:

(LOL @ the bit where he runs up to the drumkit and kicks one of the cymbals.)

Why thankyou. I feel honored. If only my tutors were similarly inclined.

All the singer did was yell random incomprehensible words into the microphone and the dancing guitarist looked like a drunk guy with tourettes. At several points I expected my ears to start bleeding.

Apparently that's not my kind of music.

Did you just insult At the Drive-In? *counts to ten under breath* Marrden, you dissapoint me. The whole point of ATD-I was the energy created by the on stage chemistry between Omar and Cedric, but I suppose you might miss some of it without the studio recording.

Here's the studio verion for the people who don't like grit:

What the hell, here are some of their new band the Mars Volta (Heh. Any old excuse.):

    A studio song:

    And live:

They're actually SAT vocabulary words strung together in amazingly convoluted and intricate sentences.

You should have posted the entire Big Day Out Cicatriz ESP including the introduction jam where Omar is doing his best Frippertronics impersonation with his massive pedal board, Jon and Juan are building everything up with Ikey filling in the blanks and Cedric screaming out random things to exercise his vocal chords. It's on there.

And here's a sample of some Cedric lyrics:

    "A mass of gallon sloth
As flys have walls for feet
A rapturous verbatim-someone said but who is to know
And when you find the fringe
The one last hit that spent you
You'll find the ossuary spilling by the day

The iconoclastic had it coming for years
They know the prisons that you have yet to fear
Where thumbs hide inside of sleepingbag mouths
Adlib your memoires by casting a drought "

They have really gone downhill since Frances the Mute though.

California. I was born here, and lived here for five years total, and counting, and to tell you the truth, it isn't all that great. I mean, when you live there. Though, I don't need to travel far to go on vacation.

Man, I'm pissed. I wrote a fucking essay on how, while initially I'd agree with you on the matter of post FTM Mars Volta - but after a while it grows on you, but my browser fucking topped itself. So you'll just have to imagine it.
