Default "Facts": (cont. from the "Love" thread)

Ok, a separate thread is clearly needed in order to discuss this issue without going off-topic in the other thread.

    Debate resumes here.

DrunkCat tried to claim that Christianity is "recycled mythology" and backed up his claim with a link to a website insinuating that Jesus is connected to Horus because of a number of vague similarities in theme, and a horde of lies about both Jesus and Horus that they made up to support their argument. This is an argument previously brought up in conspiracy theory movies like Zeitgeist and it seems ridiculous to me because it cites traits that are common to virtually ALL heroic figures and thus seems to be making little more than a straw man argument.

Come on guys, stop trying to sound smart lol. If any of you were smart you'd know that debates involving religion get no where, answer no questions, and generally do nothing but provoke people and create anger.

Leave it as it is; Didn't get the last word? Who the f*ck cares, its the internet!

I agree with Nugget. What I was trying to say has nothing to do with scripture or religious beliefs on either camp. Merely that Jesus shares company with other Life-death-rebirth deities. If you can't accept that it's not my problem.

The original link, yes, was mainly about Christianity being completely unoriginal(and trust me, if that was the point I was trying to make I'd throw you protestant links instead) but that wasn't my point. Please go back to the beginning of this post and reassess your position.

Knowledge and faith are exact opposites. If I believe that if farting in F-major is going to summon space ships then that's my call, no matter how dumb it is. Pick a superstition, make a wish and enjoy; chances are we won't discover the truth anyway.

Trying to prove it will only do your own faith harm, so what's the point? If you're hell bent on the truth of Christianity then that's your call. It doesn't mean jack to people who doesn't believe it.

That's exactly my point, Vic. Exactly. I never said that any of you should convert to Episcopalianism, but DC kept insisting that Christianity was unoriginal and baiting me to defend myself. I was polite about it at first and asked him to stop, but I quickly became more insistent as things began to spiral out of control. I suppose the lesson I've learned is not to take the bait again.

Also, DC, I am not a Protestant. I am an Episcopalian.

I know you are not, and in fact never said you were. If you were paying attention you'd actually notice I even played with your religion at the cost of humour by calling it the "in-between" religion; as it is considered the middle ground between roman catholics and protestants.

But of course, judging by that post, you have lost track of what I've written and stopped reading what I have to say. My posts, are still there, and contradict your claims to my person. Don't turn this on it's head. Let's tone down the ad hominem.

    Say again whose baiting who?
"To tell us that every species of thing is endowed with an occult specific quality by which it acts and produces manifest effects, is to tell us nothing; but to derive two or three general principles of motion from phenomena, and afterwards to tell us how the properties and actions of all corporeal things follow from those manifest principles, would be a very great step." -Issac Newton, Optics
"You are what you do not do." - Relax.

Ok, point taken. You guys are sort of right, I guess.

The link to the Horus page just put me into attack mode because it's exactly the sort of thing that's been used against me millions of times before, and I felt particularly bad about it because I'd finally started to feel comfortable and at home in DQ. I still think that DC was baiting me a bit in the Love thread... but this was the wrong way for me to respond.

I apologize to everyone who I pissed off just now. My bad.

I will never accept religeon, but i won't deny the possibility of a higher power.
Though i do find most of various religeons beliefs completely obsurd.
