Default The Day World and the Night World

    Welcome potential players!
This is a forum RPG moderated by yours truly. To play please make it clear that you want to play and design a character! To design a character please fill out this handy chart (See underneath the chart for instructions on filling out the chart):
    Name:
    Physical Description:
    Class:
    Special Skills:
    Weakness:
    Relations to other PCCs:

Name: In this ‘tribe’, names are taken from an object relating to your class. Below are suggestions/examples of class names, but for any class you can come up with your own name as long as it relates to the class you have selected. You are also free to shorten a name to a nickname as long as the full name relates to the class and you understand that Elders and division leaders will only use your full name
Examples of Hunter/Huntress names: Club, Crane, Deuce, Stiletto, Corvo, Kukri, Tanto, Kalis, Katar, Mace, Stalker, and Tumi
Examples of Breeder names: Hoop, Meccano, Tangram, Cradle, Mattel, Dam, Rubik, and Myachi
Examples of Builder names: Thimble, Stone, Needle, Steel, Textile, Weft, Mason, Ashlar, and Veneer.
Physical Description : This covers basics like height, build, colour of eyes/hair, clothes and such, but also how your character holds themselves, personality. FYI on clothes, your choices are pretty .limited in terms of color (basically stay in the dark, cool colour zone and know that everything is pretty muddy) and all clothes are pretty utilitarian. Additionally, Enclave is a completely underground settlement so I doubt anyone is gorgeously tan, it is entirely possible that there are a variety of races living in the Enclave.
Class: Your choices are Hunter/Huntress, Breeder, or Builder.
Hunters/Huntresses are responsible for venturing into the uninhabited sections of the tunnels and hunting/gathering all of the food for the Enclave. Hunter is the most honoured class and hunters get slightly special training. Their job is the most dangerous since it require fighting off the tunnel beasts (of which there are many varieties of). Hunter/Huntress training begins at age 6 and it is not unheard of for a callow to die during training. Many people do not pass hunter training.
Breeder: Unlike their name implies most of a breeders’ responsibility entails looking after callows, though they are the only class that is allowed to create the next generation of callows. A breeder can only become a breeder if they are selected by the Elders. Breeders are the smartest, most attractive, and strongest of the Enclave. No class is allowed to have any sort of romantic relations, but all classes are allowed to have casual sexual relations after they are made sterile. Breeders are the only ones left fertile. Elders assign pairs which are dissolved after the successful conception of a callow based compatibility of traits. For example, a strong female would likely be paired with clever male to produce ideal callows. Any defective callows are disposed of.
Builder: Builders are the least respected caste, but they are arguably the most important. Builders craft everything the Enclave needs from barricades to weapons to textiles. There is increased specialization under the title of builder, but the builders are oddly secretive about their inner workings. Non-builders are not allowed in the section of the Enclave called the Workshop. All citizens with ‘defects’ that were not severe enough to prevent them from being useful to the Enclave become builders. This ranges from limps, poor posture, poor eyesight, poor hearing, or any ‘slowness’.
Special Skills: Anything you would like your character excel at! Your character could be especially clever, top of their class, skilled at reading Clavescript (the only written language), very agile, very gymnastically inclined, or very charismatic! (Those are only examples and if you have your own idea, please run it by me.)
Weakness: Your character can’t be perfect, obviously! Are they neurotic? Stubborn? Afraid of the dark? Have a ‘defect’? You tell me
Relations to PCCs: This section is totally optional but if you want to talk to another DQrion(s) and have your PCCs have special relationship that is totally cool! Is your character jealous of your best friend’s character? Who are your character’s callowmates? Do you want you character to be to be an Elder’s pet? (Ask for that last one)

    NOTICE
    Greetings callows,
All callow ages 14-15 are to report to Elder Dirk in the Naming Chamber after first meal. This year’s annual Naming Ceremony has been pushed forward to today. As callows are too young to be citizens until their Naming Ceremony, no callow has ever been to a Naming Ceremony; keeping that in mind, Head Breeder Silk outlined what is expected of up and coming citizens of the Enclave. callows #1-15 are to enter the Naming Chamber and file towards the left. callows #16-30 are to file to the right. Hunters and Huntresses are named first and take six cuts in addition to their Mark. Breeders are named second and take four cuts in addition to their Mark. Builders are named last and take two cuts in addition to their Mark. After callows take their names they are full citizens and receive the respect thereof. New citizens are escorted to treatment and then to their new living space. ALL citizens are to report to final meal on time. New citizens then meet their division leaders.
Confused callows Report to Head WordKeeper Tome for further information

    Tome’s Guide to Naming Ceremonies
For the callows who have not paid any attention whatsoever in my prior lectures:.
Elder Dirk, Head of Enclave, will give your cuts. The cuts, like all citizen’s cuts, will be horizontal across your inner forearms. You will be blindfolded and you will walk into the field of potential Marks. The potential Marks are specific to your job and picked by your division leader. As you know, whatever your blood touches first is your Mark from which you will take your name. Your Mark is how you will be known to the Great Guide and without it, you are unknown to god. Always keep your Mark on your person.
Cuts are sealed with Dirk’s dirk, which is a dagger. His dirk is held in the fire until it glows white hot, after that it is pressed to your cuts in succession to seal them.

    Spoiler for Hoop's Character Profile:

    Name/number: Hoop/3
Physical description: Hoop is short and skinny. She's always been on the smaller side but she couldn't really be described as runty or stunted. She would be more likely to be described as pixie-like if the Clave had that concept. She's one of the few people in the Clave with bangs. Most people either grow their hair long enough to pull their hair back or short/shaved enough to be no where near their eyes. Hoop, however, wears her black hair cut across her eyes in a straight line. It's rare to ever see her eyes.
    Class:Breeder
Weakness:Hoop isn't always all there. She is kind of dreamy and has a very powerful imagination. She's not a super great story teller because she forgets that not everyone else is in her head. She is great playing with the callows because she is down to play the callow's game. However, the older citizens think she's weird.

    Spoiler for Club's Character Profile:

    Name/number: Club/9
Physical description: Club is one of the few truly muscle bound hunters. Born early in brood, Club learned the value of physical strength. He hit his growth spurt early and took to doing pushups. He has sandy blond hair that wears shaved close to his head.
    Class: Hunter
Weakness:Club is not very fast. He has a lot of physical strength but tunnel beasts are very fast so he will likely be prone to getting superficial claw wounds.

    Spoiler for Meccano's Character Profile:

    Name/number: Meccano/16
Physical description: Meccano is tall and handsome and physically everything that the elders want their breeders to be.
    Class: Breeder
Weakness:Because of his good looks, Meccano was always been an elder favourite and that has robbed him of his respectful fear of the elders.

    Spoiler for Stalker's Character Profile:

    Name/number: Stalker/10
Physical description:Stalker is a little more on the curvy side (not that one would be able to tell under her clothes). Despite clothes making being builder's work, Stalker likes to take the fabric from her allotted builder made outfits and make them into looser fitting cloaks. She likes to have a hood and often blends in well with the surroundings because of her propensity to stand in the shadows. She has a good idea of where to stand to not be noticed and how to move quietly.
    Class: Huntress
Weakness: Not very physically strong or expressing emotions or desire. She does take a lot of pride in her work but she puts forth a very monotone image of herself. She also doesn't typically do well in duels. She works best when going for the kill with a thin blade that makes shallow cuts. None of the cuts are particularly dangerous alone but taken together you've suddenly lost a lot of blood and can no longer use your strength advantage.

    Spoiler for Ashlar's Character Profile:

    Name/Number: Ashlar/8
Physical description: Because Ashlar was born with a club foot, she couldn't follow her dream of becoming a breeder. Ashlar has darker skin than most in the Clave and has a mostly traditional if not toned physique. Most of those who know Ashlar say that she has a 'breeder's heart and would have made a better breeder than builder. Ashlar specializes in tile maintenance and is likely to be assigned to Loft's division.
    Weakness: Clubfoot

    Spoiler for Needle's Character Profile:

    Name/number: Needle/4
Physical description: Fairly tall but has extremely poor posture. Has fiery red hair and green eyes which is very rare. He would most likely be described as attractive if not for the fact that he has several broken teeth from an accident as a callow. He probably could have become a breeder if he wanted to, but Needle always kept his head down and tried not to draw attention to himself. He always aspired to be a regular builder that no one noticed. Keeps mostly to himself.
Weakness:He's got an odd sense of humor that most of the Clave finds disgruntling or off putting. A lot of people think he's a little creepy

Name: Loft (Formerly No.28, or “Matty”)

Physical Description: Very pale in complexion, with an athletically waif build caused by a bad case of needing to climb everything. Tends to stand on the outside of her feet/her heels. Keeps her dark brown hair up mostly in two pigtails that mat up easily, hence her childhood nickname of “Matty”. True stone blue eyes, accompanied by full brows that only complete her expressions in her sometimes outrageous stories. Before she was assigned to the Builder Division, she tried- and at moments believed herself- to be everyone’s callowmate. Her clothing is worn, initially black and gray panels patched in dusty purple. Due to her rambunctious nature, she wears pants and suspenders as opposed to a skirt. Her mark, a trusty grappeling hook, is either in use or worn with its rope bandaleer-style across her chest.

    Class: Builder

Special Skills: Acrobatic. Renound storyteller amongst the Callows, and can bust a jig to boot. Knows enough about engineering to literally keep the roof over everyone’s head.

Weakness: Appears to be slightly out of touch with reality. Dyslexic. Reading Clavescript incorrectly because of this has given her some gobbely-gook swear words she might fall back on in a time of stress.

Relations to other PCCs: *To be updated as soon as other people get comfortable with their character ideas*

This looks cool but I think I'm going to wait to make a character until more people have signed up, so that I can fill a dramatic or utility-based niche that is needed.

Name: Pierce (Named for his sharpness, presumably)
Physical Description: Fairly average in most ways. Always uses mud to camouflage himself, but never uses the right mud for the right area... Has longish black hair that he has no idea how to care for, and typically wears unremarkable burlap.
    Class: Hunter
Special Skills: A good shot with a bow and arrow, and is legitimately good at navigating tunnels. Has a brilliant idea for a perpetual motion machine but for some reason the builders won't listen to him.
Weakness: Not to be rude, but Pierce is remarkably daft. As long as he sticks to hunting and gathering, he's alright, but the second he, say, opens his mouth, it becomes apparent that he has no idea what he's talking about.
Relations to other PCCs: best bros with Loft/Matty

Name: Lullaby (formerly 11 or 'Nanny', her mark is a music note)
Physical description: Slightly shorter than average with an hourglass figure. She has thick long black hair, brown eyes, and a beautiful face with soft features. She wears a simple brown belted dress.
    Class: Breeder
Special Skills: Lullaby is very good at intuiting what people need and calming them down, especially children. She's adept at solving problems and disputes. She is very kind and warm and has a lovely singing voice.
Weakness: She is a bit too trusting for her own good, and is quite gullible. Her physical strength is not her strong suit.
    Relations to other PCCs: (pending)
Personal history: Ever since she was little, Lullaby had a strong desire to help the mothers care for other callows: whether this was holding and rocking a baby until they stopped crying or settling a dispute among callows her own age. This warmth and maternal attitude earned her the nickname 'Nanny'. Since she understood the difference between classes she has hoped to become a breeder (keep in mind she has no understanding of sex or where babies come from).

    Name: Stylus

Physical Description: Born a close borderline case for euthanasia, Stylus has a sickly, runtish, childlike aspect to him. He has a small build and walks with the aid of a crutch, missing his right leg below the knee and takes meticulous care in his appearance and grooming. He generally seems to project sense of gentleness and sensitivity.

    Class: Builder

Special Skills: Charming, intelligent, passionate and driven with a strict and persuasive sense of right and wrong. His vulnerable and unintimidating appearance gives him an endearing and easy to trust air and helps mask a notable Machiavellian streak.

Weakness: By the standards of the Clave, Stylus has numerous severe physical disabilities including the loss of his leg, shortness of breath, muscle fatigue, poor eyesight, poor motor control and seizures.

Most obstructive to his goals as a reformer and means as a manipulator, however, is his rampant egomania. Insecure and narcissistic, he is too prideful to tactically self-derogate or allow himself to be subjugated. Under the wrong kind of pressure his serene mask and emotional intelligence fall away and he becomes petulant and spiteful.

Relations to other PCCs: Close childhood friends with Lullaby.

“Please join Tome in prayer to welcome our new Clave citizens,” intoned Dirk. Tome stepped out of the line of elders into the light. He shuffled to the center of the white tiled room. Though it has the highest ceiling of any of the living spaces, the festival hall isn't used for much other than annual naming ceremonies and feasts so it is not particularly well lit. The braziers and torches cast an uneven light as they burn and sputter. Tome looked around the hall making eye contact with all present.

“We thank Kai, giver and taker of life, for our bountiful harvest of talent individual. We thank the Great Guide for keeping the Enclave on the divine path.” He eyed the new citizens; “We thank the Great Guide for bring our callows safely to adulthood. The Clave is strong; the Clave is united.” All the citizens repeated the familiar utterance in unison. Tome bowed low and returned to his place in the line of elders next to Shaman, the Enclave’s doctor. Corvo, Head Huntress, stepped forward with a hand on the hilt of the twelve inch curved blade that was her mark. She glared at assembled crowd with her usual predatory gaze. In her usual throaty, gruff voice, she announced that callows were to follow her to their new living spaces. She swept out of the room leaving it feeling emptier than one person leaving a room should be able too. The callows filed out of the door after Corvo with varying degrees of relief, pride, shame, pain, and anxiety. Some held their forearms close to their chests while they looked at the angry burns. Others whooped and jumped their way down the tunnel. Still others walk like a solider to their execution, presumably nervous to join the Clave as an equal or ashamed that they cried out during the bleeding or cauterizing. Every new citizen held their mark close to their chest like the religious artifact that it is. Corvo’s aura cleared a path through the crowd in the main living space and quickly reached the end of the chamber and turned about. As the new citizens hurried to catch up with her, the citizens cheered and applauded. Corvo turned down a much shorter tunnel and into a smaller living section.

“These living spaces are numbered 1-30. This is the last time the Clave will use your callow number, but for sake of clarity, your living space is marked with your former number. I don’t care if you trade living spaces. Don’t be late to second meal. It is in your honor, after all,” she said with a wolfish smile and with that grin, she left.

Lullaby--the name was still strange to her--looked back down the hallway as Corvo left. She clutched the carved stone music note and tried to ignore the stinging pain in her arm as she made her way back through the crowd. As she had predicted, Stylus had fallen behind.

"Corvo said that the living spaces are numbered with our callow numbers, but we can trade if we like," she said when Stylus reached her.

Loft looked down the row of thirty doors, a small smile on her face. She was a Builder now, a full grown adult with a talent to contribute to society. Well, that's what she tried to tell herself as she held her mark- a grappling hook- by its rope and gave the entire contraption a light swing, creating a light twirl. In truth, she was just exited- she knew that her natural knack for climbing wouldn't go to waste! She would be up high every day, able to scale down with her literally God-given item to talk to anyone who needed-or wanted- to talk.

See, that was the great thing about being part of the "low, common rabble," she thought. Only a certain handful got to be "higher class"- everyone else became a Builder, and she knew just about everyone her year, Builder or not. It's not like she'd be alone in this.

Alone- it was such a cold word, but maybe that was only because this hallway in front of their new solitary rooms was a bit drafty. She'd never really been alone before. Singled out, sure, but not alone. She looked left, and then right, trying to see if anyone else was holding back, only to realize that she was one of the few who had not gone into their own rooms. Nanny- er, "Lullaby" and "Stylus" were hanging around, most presumably for "Stylus" to catch his breath, and she could see a figure off in the distance, most presumably her old friend "Pierce" milling about.

    Mmmm... Lullaby and Stylus'r closer.

Thumbs tucking under and resting at the joint where her suspenders and her pants met, Loft moseyed over to the small cluster of fresh adults. "Na- er, Lullaby!" Gosh, new names were weird. "Sty...lus? Stylus! We survived to adulthood!" She threw her arms up in victory, wincing a tiny bit as her new scars pulled and stretched. "Yay, us!"

Wit looked abo- No, no, that wasn't right. No more nicknames for this intelligent and handsome young man! Pierce looked about at the others. How long had he known them now? Well, he didn't feel like trying to work out how long, exactly, it had been, nor was he sure if they had an applicable unit of measure for large intervals of time, so he just called it 'a lot of time.'

And he was a hunter! He'd be out with his bow and arrows and seeing new places and new creatures which he'd then fight and kill! Awesome!

    "Hey Matty!" He said. "Congrats!"

    He paused for a second.

    "Oops, sorry, er, Loft."

The kid who was now Stylus crutched along, idly fondling his Mark in lieu of the close examination he was determined to give it once he had some privacy. Walking at speed required a monopoly of his effort and he had a weird desire to keep his curiosity and excitement about it quiet from the others.

He knew it was silly but he felt he'd earned a little bit of indulgence in his strangeness after today. Today he was vindicated; he felt a suffocating fear and anxiety he had known since he had been able to properly think slide from his shoulders. Mostly, at least. He felt he had agency now. He felt he could spend his energies on something more than self-defence, and for someone who had to defend himself as long and hard as he had, those energies were nearly inexhaustible.

If celebrating that meant concealing an obvious and equally silly sentimental attachment to a dumb object he was going to conceal the shit out of it.

The girls had stopped ahead of him, too. He hurried and pushed through the last stretch between him and them and rested, catching his breath, leaning heavily on his crutch and running his fingers through his hair. Normally this image of Stylus would be a little sad but today the obvious relief and happiness gave him a care-free air as he cleared his lungs of the awfully ventilated torchsmoke.

He smiled at Matty. "Yeah." He took the moment's breath-catching as an opportunity to glance at her mark and remind himself of her new name "uhm, Llllloft was it?" He grinned. "I guess we're going to be spending a lot of time together now, huh?" With a glance at Lullaby the happy feeling faded just a touch, but the smile did not.

He addressed her now. Her name was easy. "Let's see what they're like first - they're probably not too different from each other." He cleared his throat. "One might be easier to get to though which would be nice."

Lullaby smiled at the other two's enthusiasm. There had never been much doubt in her mind that she would make it to this point, and while she was happy, she wasn't about to act like a callow again. She turned back to Stylus as he spoke.

"Good point. Well eleven is closer than fifteen now, so let's look at my room first." She looked over her shoulder at Loft and Pierce. "Do you two want a look too, or are you going to stand out here until second meal?"

Name: Whet (Formerly 12, or Tel for short)

Physical Description: She is long limbed and muscular with short almost stubbly hair. Currently she has a broken upper arm securely wrapped in cloth and a nasty burn mark that is still healing covering her left eye and where her left ear should be. The burn mark extends quite far up from her eye and ear and an eyepatch keeps a ball of soft fabric securely placed in her eye socket. She is blind and deaf on her left side.

    Class: Builder

Special Skills: Quick thinker with a great reaction speed and physical endurance that keeps up for hours. Great discipline with weapon maintenance and, due to an insatiable interest in their construction, has been taught of the process. She was skilled in the use of ranged weapons like bows and spear-throwers before her sight was partially taken.

Weakness: Arrogant and proud, places a lot of weight on the hierarchical difference between the classes. Considering her current situation she’s been thrown into feelings of despair and hopelessness as she fights with accepting her new lot in life and grieving the future she’s lost. She's painfully aware that her face has been disfigured and has spent her time outside of recovery hiding herself whenever she could.

Relations to other PCCs: (This will be more in general) As she is paranoid she’s made enemies she has decided to push away everyone she knew. She might seek out the company of people she deems too weak or uninterested to have done her harm. She does appreciate the head builder as he was essential in negotiating her survival.
She might be known by hunters for her classicist attitude and players might otherwise recognize her from rumors or sights of her disfigured face.

Personal history: Four weeks before the Naming Ceremony Whet woke up in a nursing bed after an incident the elders considered an attack by unknown callows. It had left her missing her left eye and ear and she had broken her upper arm. She recalls nothing from the attack but was well aware this would spell an end to her hunting dreams and possibly her life. Due to her interest in weapons construction the head builder defended her value as a citizen and thus played a big part in ensuring her survival.

    _________________________________________________

“My name is Whet. Whet.” She clutched the mark with her right hand, intending to crush it but the new pain in her forearm gave her a sickening feeling and the mark was not subjected to more than a weak squeeze. All she saw before her eyes was the division leader’s look of pity at her as he handed her the mark that named her. This day was not what it was supposed to be.

She felt anger well up in her at the thought of fate subjecting her to this kind of torture. Her life as a weapons builder would be one long reminder of what could have been if it wasn’t for… She felt sick again. She had felt a sensation as if stone had been weighing down her stomach ever since the creeping realization set in that she’d never be a huntress and possibly never see her Naming Ceremony. She felt she was supposed to feel a deep appreciation. She had survived the past month in hell while it was yet uncertain she’d be allowed to live or not. However all she felt was a suffocating sense of fear. Everything she had thought her life would be was suddenly different and these weeks had been a big glaring reminder that she was neither untouchable nor immortal.

She had made it to the living section when she once again felt a wave of sickness. She stopped and leaned against a wall, hiding her face from those who might look. A group of four people was forming not far from her and she immediately felt the need to move on to avoid embarrassment. However before she had a chance to take a step, her body hunched over and she threw up against the wall. When she caught her breath and regained control she glanced at the group in wild panic before hurrying off and into the safety of her room. She slammed the door behind her and sat on the floor, covering her new scars with her hands.

Lullaby heard the sound of someone retching and instantly turned toward it. She saw Twelve, bent almost double. Even though they shared a numbering day, Twelve had never let her get close. Before she could move Twelve had run into her room.

"Twelve!" she called out, nimbly stepping around Pierce and dashing to the door that had just shut. "Twelve, please. If you're ill you should see Shaman."

Whet heard the muffled voice of concern outside her door. Her head sank between her knees in some callow-like attempt to hide away. She didn't feel like it was her body that was ill. Her heartbeat had been hammering at her skull since the ceremony but now it finally seemed to calm down. She didn't know why 11 cared about her and blinking through tears she put her head up and lightly tapped it against the door she was leaning up against. "I'm not ill," she mustered to say despite her throat feeling like someone was squeezing it tight. She wanted to tell 11 to leave her alone, but she knew the next thing she'd utter would give away her distress. She didn't want pity.

"Twelve, I just saw you throw up." Lullaby tried to push the door open, but something was keeping it closed. "Come on Twelve, let me in. If you're that sick it'll probably interfere with your work and then you'll get in trouble. Talk to me, please."

Pierce looked around, realizing that he hadn't been entirely, or even partially, paying attention to what had been discussed or done.

    "Yeah, sure, that sounds fun."

After a brief moment's bewilderment, Stylus shifted his weight into a walking position again.

"I think we need to deal with this first, Pierce ol' pal," he said with a gentle pat to the shoulder and began to clump his way painstakingly to the situation at Whet's door.

Whet had been a real piece of work. A key tormentor of his in their early years and an aloof snob as soon as she started hunter training. A not-too-small part of him took a cruel pleasure in her fall from grace.

She was a builder now, though, and another part of him saw his own situation in her's. It had been difficult not to recognize the devastation on her face as she was named. She had not looked unwell; she looked overwhelmed by a humiliation and anger and self-loathing which was all too familiar to Stylus. One which Lullaby's well-intended motherly coddling would only exacerbate.

He touched Lullaby's arm. "I think she's just very upset, Lul." He said softly.

"If you're that sick it'll probably interfere with your work and then you'll get in trouble." 11's words kept repeating. She knew she was right, but somehow the reminder only served to upset her more. Were things ever going to get better? Would she just end up as damaged goods, a waste of time for the Enclave? She was already inefficient as it was, one arm out of commission and far from accustomed to her limited eyesight.

Whet pulled herself from her thoughts and found she was tensed up and staring into the wall across from her. She realized she couldn't afford to be mentally affected too.
Outside her door she heard a muffled voice she recognized as belonging to the cripple. She knew 11 and the cripple were friends or had a relationship of some sorts. She wasn't really sure nor had she cared enough about either of them to figure them out. After all, both of them had been below her. Now 11 would be considered worth more than herself and her friend would be considered just as, if not more capable than her. It stung her pride.

"Hey, er, Whet?" Pierce said. "That's your new name right?"

He wasn't entirely sure how to console someone, but after a moment's consideration, he believed he knew how to proceed.

"It's okay, really," he said. "We all feel really sorry for you! Honest!"

    Nailed it.

Lullaby thought about what Stylus said. He was probably right.

"I'm sorry things haven't worked out the way you hoped, but the Great Guide has plans for us, and I'm sure He has great things planned for you. You already proved yourself surviving that attack. You can survive a little disappointment."

Lullaby turned back to the other three.

"Come on, help me clean this up," She said, gesturing at the puddle of sick.

Loft had hung towards the back of the crowd at Whet's impromptu queue, watching the discourse through the door with a slight pucker to her lip. Whet- or, more familiarly, Tel- had always been unresponsive to Loft's attempts to add her to her stories, and at that tender, early age, Loft could tell that this avoidance was not accidental or meaningless. Tel- Whet- had always been one of those people that really could not have anything to do with you if you didn't have anything sociably respectable to strap under your belt. Given this bluntly haughty attitude, their relationship always was- and probably always would be- a bit on the strained side. But Loft didn't hold this against Tel. Some people were just going to be less compatible than others.

Still, knowing this about her standing with the now most horribly disappointed- the hero, fallen from grace!- Tel, Loft new to keep her distance from the grieving woman. It's her moment. She should have it in the comfort of whatever setting she chooses. But the moment Tel got out of her room, Loft resolved to tell her as many stories about fallen heroes rising up to glory as she could possibly hold in her think-tank...

But for now, her attention was drawn to the mess Lullaby wanted to clean up. Oh. Yeah. That. Loft looked around to see what all could be used to clean. "Should we use the fabric on the walls? We'll have to go into the Builder's area soon anyway, and I know that that's where things get washed."

"I can't think of a better idea," Lullaby said. It took longer than expected to clean up, but they got it done and carried the dirty cloth to the edge of the Workshop, where Lullaby handed the cloth to Loft. Pierce tried to give his armload to Stylus but Lullaby redirected him. The builders went into the Workshop while Pierce and Lullaby waited outside.

Since they had time Lullaby decided to write a request on the wet wall. She took the muddy rag out of the half-full bucket and moistened a patch of blank wall, before picking up the stylus and clumsily carving the message.

Lullaby requests string to make her Mark into a necklace.

It looked a little sloppy, but it was still readable.

The festival had a jovial air about it. The entire Clave was in a good mood and citizens stood in clusters reminiscing about their name day or chatting excitedly. Today was one of the few holidays and holidays meant double portions of food for everyone and entertainment. The dining hall was decorated with extra torches and some of the prettier pieces of fabric hung from the ceiling that made the immense cavern seem homier. In the trench with strange metal sticks in it, callows were playing hunters and tunnel beasts. The breeders who were supposed to be watching over the children were sitting above them on the straight wall above the trench laughing and flirting. The elders were sitting at the table of highest honor and even they didn't look so stern. All the new citizens were tonight's guests of honor and had a special table set up near the elders' table. Life was good for the Clave and the main events of dancing and the Hunter's Tournament for Glory hadn't even started yet.

Lullaby entered the dining hall making an effort not to skip. She made her way over to her fellow breeders, greeting Hoop with a hug.

"Did I miss anything?" Lullaby asked. She wasn't late by any means but clearly a lot of people had arrived a lot earlier.
