Default Brute from Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Hey there all. It's been nearly a year since I posted my last drawing, so I figured it was about time.

I actually started this one shortly after finishing the Grunt piece, but stopped shortly after. However I picked it up again a couple of days ago, and decided to finish it.

    So here it is. Enjoy!

That looks great! I like the fact that you implemented every detail including the disturbing toes. By the way, the head looks creepy, if not the whole body.

That face! This guy have seen his share of lemons that's for sure.

I really like the way he (is it a he?) is bolted together.

Wow, kreekakon, I never knew you were such a good artist. What the hell happened to that guy's (gal's??) face! Nice attention to detail by the way. Gives the impression that the brute's armor is simply made up of metal bits and bobs that were nailed and bolted down to its body (which I'm betting they were). I love it- which is to say I am horrified and need to change my pants.

Something does look a bit off about the body's pose especially around the legs (looks a bit like he's floating) but I'll leave that to the more experienced artists to discuss.

It's never really disclosed in the game, but that's just how they look.

    Thanks all for the feedback!

If anyone's interested, I also did a Grunt piece a long time ago, and you can see it here (Click on thread link for full)

Hmm...now that you mention it, I think I may have slightly drew his pose a bit lopsided. Mostly from his torso "flexing" forward; I think I may have overdid it in that respect a bit.

Nice work. You could color it in photoshop, would make it even better.

And lose all of the awesome pencil outlines by tainting it with foreign digital colors? Nah I think I'll pass on that one.

You don't need to lose the pencil to colour it digitally Below are 2 very quick examples of what you could do.

'Overlay' the colour on top of the drawing. (This gives it more of a subtle colour).

Set the drawing layer to 'Darken' or 'Multiply' then colour under it. (This gives it more rich colours and you can add highlights and work more with it overall).

Wow, that does indeed look amazing. Guess I was wrong :O

However, I'm lousy with Photoshop beyond some of the more basic things, so I think I still won't be doing it

I think I like the overlay version best, the desaturated colors fits his personality and it shows the fine details better.

I agree. The overlay does retain the classic, grainy feel of hand drawn paper art. But I still think I would prefer the other one with its richer shades and texture. By the way Xiox, how long did it take you to do those quick examples?

You really are a good artist, Kreekakon. Maybe you should start practicing photoshop and experiment with digital art. You'll never know unless you try.

The overlay does kind of improve the tone and features without so much removing the black and white shades. Plus, it makes his chopped-in-half head that much more disturbing and scary to look at.

My opinion: what everyone else says.

Will you also be doing the Suitors from the DLC? They were pretty damn horrifying.

Maybe not. Mostly because they have dicks hanging out, and it would be really awkward if I shared it on Facebook to show all my real-life friends.

Maybe something slightly more light-hearted next time ^^

It took me about 30 seconds to a minute to do each of them, so it is really easy to do. I did a poor job on the second one though, even though the first one is the easiest and has the best effect for this work, the second way allows you to do more shading and playing with colours. Overalying will only show the colours on where there is greyscale, it won't show up on white or black, the darker the grey though, the richer the colour.
