    Default First snow

When I woke up this morning everything was covered in snow. Not really a shock since I live in Norway, but it made me think: how would people from other parts of the world react if it started snowing in the middle of October?

so, how would you react, how is your average winter and when does it "start"?

It snowed over here like a week or two ago, though nothing that stayed for more than a few hours. Just waiting for the ice now.

Technically speaking Winter starts at October 14th in Scandinavia, according to meteorologist, peaking with the Winter Solstice and then ends the last day of February, although I would personally extend that to the Spring Equinox myself.

It says we'll have some light snow over the weekend. I heard some places in Norway are gonna have a wonderful 1 meter of snow in some places. Happy commuting!

Here, tommorow we'll have snow falling on 400 - 500 meters above sea level. A bit early this year, but for last few years our winters have been a bit incosistent. One year we had no snow till January, one year we had brutal snow blizzards, one year no snow at all... But usually we have it around November and December, lasting up till March.
So, officially we have harsh, long winters; unofficially we have winter whenever it wants to be.

I read this thread, went outside, and it started snowing. It melted immediately as it hit the ground but it counts I guess. Now I will accuse the weather gods for stalking me when I read DQ forums.

In Texas (depending on where you live) it really never snows, usually only ices over for a day. But when it does snow people freak out (both in good and bad ways) and usually most places are shut down but the snow usually melts by the next day. I used to live in north Texas and it would snow almost every winter during December and into February and it was always fun.

Now in Indiana it snows really whenever it damn well feels like it. Last year was a really mild winter but 2 years ago we got hit with a storm so bad that they had to cancel college classes for 2 days. Indiana's weather is really weird.

Snowed lightly a few times here. While I was doing a test in a blinds-closed classroom.

Winter in the UK: Is that snow?

    SHUT.
    DOWN.
    EVERYTHING.

I think there was an entire week and a half where the school bus wouldn't drive. There was just enough snow in the large public area outside the house to make two dirt-covered snowmen.

This... we seriously over react in this country. The only upside is that by the second day people have gotten over their shock and it's business as usual.

Shadow, why do you hope lakes will be frozen if you want to swim in a lake?

It is rare to snow here, unless you live in the south. My only thought would be: Damn, the pollution really affects the weather, doesn't it? And because it's spring right now.

We're gonna take showers afterwards! It'll be fun, both the swimming and the showering!

It'll be cool swimming in a tight hole with other guys, surrounded by ice
Let's leave this talk guys. The reason is "fun". It's what I consider fun. Like tastes in art, it cannot be explained. Everyone has their own tastes.

Damn, still waiting for snow. It's the only thing, in my opinion, that justifies winter's existence.

And dude, swimming in a frozen lake? Really?
