Default Finished(ish) painting of a mask

If you can't see the picture click here!
This one took a lot of effort because my ambitions weren't in the same place as my skills nor in the same place as my paint mixing abilities (hence the ruined 'mane' around the mask). If anyone tells you that gouache and acrylics can mix because they're "basically the same thing" you need to slap them and tell them they don't know anything.

Acrylics, gouache and pen on an A3-sized piece of paper.
I've worked on it on and off for about three weeks and it's taught me some valuable lessons in design, direction and motivation.

The solid bits look really cool to me. Loving the shading on them balls. I think next time you should work on a bigger canvas and then crop it down to size - the mane at the top looks a little too much like it was squeezed in after you finished the main mask.

Other than that though I think it's a pretty damn effective design conceptually.

The whole design generally suffers under the fact there wasn't enough space already from the first draft. :/

So I've been having a staring contest with this guy for a while now and, KT, I'm impressed! Love the design and idea. The tone of the colors are also great and the fact that it's all traditional always impresses me.

I think you nailed that metallic part good, looks like copper, if that's what you were after? The highlights and shading is also good in overall, it gives good hints of the shapes. I could have wished for a bit more "pop", like darker shadows but I know it's hard to pull off with watercolors. They tend to be quite bright and don't always mix too well with one another. That and like already mentioned -the mane - are the only things I can think of that could be improved. I think using a dry brush/rake brush with shadows and speculars could add to the feel of it being hairy. But then again I don't know if that works with watercolors.

Keep up the good stuff KT! Awaiting more goodies.

It's good to know that people can still achieve wonders with the old traditional means.

This is awesome work, KT. The coloring and shading are superb. I personally like the way you colored the shades above his eyes. Looks like wood to me. And jewel in his crown was well done too.

I'm not much of an art critic, but if you would notice, on the right side of his face, the blue stripe extends all the way into his eye. Just wanted to ask about that.
