Default Oh no, pink and red!

I just realise this while walking in a walgreens, red and pink everywhere. Valentines day. Where did the month go? Crap.

Despite popular disapproval of males who feel it's a enforced holiday among girlfriends, I actually never recieved anything. (I guess it's not popular around here or I'm not cute/popular enough lol) I know people in general don't enjoy it but I don't think everyone gets the special treatment either. Always seems to be the same people who gets gifts? Or I'm I the only one that feels that way?

Hopeful wishing always leaves disappointment so it's best not to expect nada.

Just curious what people thought of the holiday.

Many think it's an over commercialised event that blackmails the emotions on others to buy their cheap chocolate. Which is true. However I seen that it's calm down significantly. I don't see as much advertisement for valentines like before.

Among lovers, the expression of love should be celebrated everyday not just on this holiday.

Valentine's day is a sad, over-commercialized phenomenon that should be dragged behind the shed and shot for the good of all love in this world.

My boyfriend and I don't celebrate it and I am glad for that. It's insane how many stories I've heard of couples breaking up because that significant other forgot the day where chocolate and roses are sold to the highest bidder in an excuse of 'all for my love'.

Really glad I live somewhere that doesn't mark this day as significant unless you're a metropolitan romantic with a love for American "culture".

As much as Valentine is a sad holiday for the lonely (and for many others too), I enjoy it as an opportunity to get creative with the most basic thing - the anonymous heart-shaped card. So far, I remember sending a "vintage" one on old paper with a faux-typewriter poem inside, an ASCII-art one, and I am going to invent something for this year.

I don't like it. Loved one should be remembered and gifted any day, not just on this commercialised bullshit of a holiday.
And I never really celebrated it either, I never had a girlfriend

I completely agree with you KT, the saddest thing is when i see some people like my good friend are celebrating half year or one and half year of their relationship (that's the main cause of breaking up these days)
I don't have a girlfriend currently but I loved and I was loved and the feeling is da best.
Yes, I almost forgot. One year I heard two girls talking about the present that one of them got from her boyfriend. She was pissed because he bought her a shampoo and some other stuff (I think it was Avon set or something) and then she said that he isn't worth for her. I was very pissed of that and that close to swear at her
Many people nowdays don't appreciate each other, that is the cruel faith of many.

Valentine's Day is probably the most insulting day of the year -- out of all my hatred for holidays, this one is the worst -- and I'm currently compiling a murder hit list of all the people who believe that Valentines day has ANYTHING to do with love or romance at all.

    This.

On the topic of the holiday, I don't really care much for the actual holiday on either side of the coin I land. If I'm committed, I just find it an excuse to do some splurging without being questioned about my financial situation. If I'm not, then it's just another day.

One thing though, is that it seems to be very gender sided. I think if a day like this should exist, it should be a 'lovers' day; where you're celebrating the union between two people, not the persons individually.

How could you kill that many people XD

@DC - I disagree with you, there shouldn't be any holiday that reminds people of love. People should remind themselves about it and share that feeling. Every holiday about love is like a burden (I love when they say it on this way: "You forgot that today is VD, you don't love me!" XD) which could end up dramatically.

I forgot one more thing, love is priceless. It doesn't matter if someone buys you a mixer, guitar or some pajamas. If it is from the heart, that's love.

You know, there's a popular legend behind "Saint Valentine" who was killed as a Christian in Rome for challenging a law banning marriage between social classes or some shit like that. The night before his execution he wrote a love letter to the daughter of his jailer, the first Valentine's card.

While the story is utter bullshit, just remember this as the romantic day a man got torn apart in a collosseum for the enjoyment of the masses.

Love will find its way, over time and space, love will find its way.

This, though I already thought of Valentine's Day that way.

Valentines day... isn't that the 'holiday' made by the greeting card producers as an excuse to... what? Fucking buy chocolates and shit for the sake of love when actually it's a cheap commercial scam?
No thanks. I'll pass that holiday.

If it was toblerone chocolate, I'd gladly take it. Even on a stock holiday. If it was Hershey's, no thanks.

I don't really care about valentines day, for me it's just like any other day, I don't understand why some people think it's important in any way.
