    Default ACTA

SOPA and PIPA are currently in limbo, but there is a far more dangerous bill in the process of being passed: ACTA.

"ACTA - The Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement is a proposed plurilateral agreement for the purpose of establishing international standards on intellectual property rights enforcement in Europe.

ACTA would establish a new international legal framework that would create its "own governing body outside existing international institutions" such as - the World Trade Organization (WTO), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) or the United Nations.

An open letter signed by many organizations, including Consumers International, EDRi (27 European civil rights and privacy NGOs), the Free Software Foundation (FSF), the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), ASIC (French trade association for web 2.0 companies), and the Free Knowledge Institute (FKI), states that "the current draft of ACTA would profoundly restrict the fundamental rights and freedoms of European citizens, most notably the freedom of expression and communication privacy."

If you live in the UK contact your EU Parliament representatives here.

The EU Parliament will be voting on this bill in just under a month.

This is just a start, PM me with any other useful links that you find and I'll add them to this post.

At the end of the day I really can't give a sh%t. (Not aim at ArtoriusVonKrieg) It's like one bill comes a long. We all stop it and then some other bill trys to fuck us over. And the thing is... My videos don't use copyright music so really I am fine. Right? The only bill I really worry about is SOPA and PIPA and the one that stops all Gaming video's and websites. That's it. Do correct me if I wrong know.

You talk about video games and have footage of video games, which is copyrighted and registered licences that you do not own. All your videos - and I do mean all of them - are illegal according to this bill. So no, you're not safe, you're probably the first to go if it gets passed

Can we just get rid of copyright? I mean. Why can't it just be a simple thing of "If you own it you can sell it if you don't you can not." Done. If I give a CD to Vic for free why is that considered pirating? Why is that even illegal?

That's if I don't remove all my gaming videos before I am found out or before the the Bill is past. Remember there are tons of YouTube Accounts that 'talk about video games and have footage of video games' (Like Machinima) And there's a lot of them to deal with. So if there did come across my channel the only thing there find is me talking about my day.

So you're going to raise the white-flag and do as the men in suits tell you?
Even though we all know they're all corrupt as fuck.

It's like governments around the world see "cybercrime" as a worse thing than crime in real life.
Seriously, if ACTA happens, I have nothing to do, if I can't use the internet which I'm pretty addicted to at the moment, there's absolutely nothing to do in my life.

They might as well just shut down the entire internet.

And what do dumb and pissed-off teenagers do when they have absolutely nothing to do?
That's right, steal cars and beat up random people.

You really shoud give a shit about this piece of legislation, this isn't just about you being able to make your little videos, this is about all intellectual property- anything that can be copyrighted and patented falls under this agreement.

A hypothetical situation: you've just been diagnosed with cancer, but you're in luck, there is a treatment and with just a few rounds of this revolutionary new drug you'll be back to your former health. Unfortuneately this new drug is owned by the company GlaxoSmithKline and they are charging an exorbitant fee to hospitals and research labs looking to use improve this drug. You can't afford the drug and no other research labs have been able to come close to a similar treatment... you are now doomed to die a slow agonizing death all because you neglected to read up on the specifics of ACTA and who and what it affects.

Which is the worst thing about it. It'll be sad when someone is in the E.R. and they can't be treated because the bronchodilators used to treat their anaphylactic shock is off-limits.

Uh huh. Is there any real difference between SOPA, PIPA and ACTA?

You know the people making these bills are getting a lot of media fanfare. Is this a publicity stunt?

I wonder how many people on the internet who didn't pay attention to politics have suddenly started to because of SOPA and the like. I know I certainly have.

I demand a all government restart. Its clear that no government's members are currently in a stable state of mind to manage their own home, much less a country's laws and money.

    lol.

If a government restart was necessary it would be because ACTA had been passed back in '08 and because nobody would bother protesting or bother requesting disclosure of the ACTA text. Clearly there are people in power who are struggling against this, though with that said, there are also people who need to understand what this can do and not how much they might get paid under the table.

Also, seriously, ACTA is a pretty trivial thing to demend a restart of the entire government. Don't get me wrong, ACTA is a horrible bill that should never be passed, but, I mean, come on, it's just the internet. Now, if they made a bill that said, like, "Anyone who illegally downloads files gets sent to death camps," then restarting the government would be a good idea.

Yep. If you get into the hospital for any reason, you're going to be forced to pay big bucks for your morphine. Sorry there, I know it's addicting.
