    Default SOPA and IP protect

    (Not sure if posted yet)

For those of you that haven't heard: http://americancensorship.org/infographic.html

I think these bills are a load of bull. If signed into law, they'll get repealed faster than prohibition. These government fuckers don't realize that piracy has stimulated competition such as itunes store, hulu, and netflix. Not just piracy is in for it either. every on of us would be a criminal if there's were enacted.

    Posting this:

Could get me up to 5 years of jail time and a fine. This is just part of Capitol Hill's scheme to work it's way around the 1st amendment and make it meaningless. I don't think these bills have a chance. they'll last on the constitution for a month tops.

Posted about PROTECT-IP, or E-PARASITE, or whatever it is now called. But yeah, there is only one way this can end.

I'd like to know how DNS blocking is supposed to work. By blocking a DNS server, you're basically blocking a domain's ability to translate an ip address into a domain name, see google.com and it's respective ip address 173.194.32.52. This does not block the website and a simple ping command will tell you the ip address of any website on the net, allowing you to surf using the ip address instead of the domain name. I'm actually not even sure if this would do anything but inconvenience people, but then again I've never tried my luck against this kind of censorship so I have no idea.

Also, this is ridiculous. In Sweden there was such an uprising towards the idea that the government might get right to read your emails or listen to your phone calls - if a possible connection to terrorism was found to back it up - that the entire thing had to be revised twice. The entire war on piracy in Sweden is a complete joke, and the only people they've sentenced after this law was the owners of Pirate Bay, and even that was an illegal arrest meant to scare other sites into packing down. It's just too expensive for any of it to be practical.

These laws are completely impotent, and are just the next link in the censorship debate that's been going on since the radio was invented. Old stuff, new people. While I do encourage people to speak out, I'm not worried myself. This world was bought and paid for long ago and the real censorship isn't the kind you're allowed to be a part of. So enjoy your political drivel while I continue to not give a shit.

This is one of the many reasons why our current government is stupid and noneffective.

Normally I wouldn't give a flying rat's ass either, but this being in my country, and getting a scary amount of support, and with how much my life depends on piracy, I can't ignore this new development. It is, however, the only thing I care about politically.

If this goes through, the majority of Americans will be discontent and angry, Internet businesses would lose their jobs (not to mention USA has a lot of Internet businesses) and the economy would probably go even worse.

Yep, makes no sense and chances of it getting passed are slim. Why bother even paying attention to this?

I had a friend explain it this way:

'the website is misleading the main purpose of the hearing is to fight copyright infringement, which is illegal. While this does have larger implications for upstart websites previous versions have been poorly written and have not been able to make it to the house or senate floor. The thing we can hope comes out of this hearing is an understanding of how to treat websites with potential of copyright infringement that does not include blocking the whole website. While big sites like youtube have the ability to fight back against any infringement that might occur new sites will not (that is the big issue) because the internet will be less of an open market. While I do think this has the potential to make the internet less fun, I think that if legislators are too broad with the next bill they come up with it will fail anyway. I also have faith that the smart people of the internet will always find ways to do whatever they want on the internet and no law will stop them anyway.'

If it were to pass (and it never will. it's too silly), you and all international users of the internet would be effected almost equally. Though censorship would not be there, US-based websites - and I mean 99% of them - would be shut down and/or changed dramatically. For everyone.

I think it wouldn't effect on us at all.

This thread is a sarcasm disaster; I dare say that everyone misunderstands each other right now. You don't deserve my sarcasm at all. I'll give my sarcasm to people who either understand it to be funny or are too stupid to understand it so I can laugh at them, like all the people I talk to at work.

You people suck. I can't believe I understood what was sarcasm and what wasn't - how bad is it when the person who's commonly known to hate social contact has better people skills than you people do? For shame.

Yea, and let's get back on topic.

Didn't the senators just start voting on it or something?
