Dell or Acer. Acer might be shit to look at, but the inside components do pretty darn well, even if you treat your laptop badly.

Don't ever use Acer. It can be good overall, but there are tiny nightmares right around the corner.
Fuck up apple: do you really want vendor lock-in?
Hp can be good overall. Dell is also not bad. ASUS - unless you can't stand the bastardisation of Linux they have made(I tried to boot graphics for half an hour!) (Linux version is around 60$cheaper)

Dell are usually your best bet, though they tend to degrade after a few years. Had mine for about two years and it's falling apart at the seams.

If you're wallpapering your house with money, on the other hand, you can get one of those monstrous Alienware laptops.

If your going for a Windows OS, fore the love of god don't pick Vista, either go with the latest Windows 7 or consider a different OS entirely.

I'd go with Dell. Their computers are decent, and they'll work with most software.

Edit: Buliding your own computer requires a fair amount of in depth knowledge, and can be quite expensive. I don't think that's what W@Wfan is looking for.

Actually it's MUCH cheaper and it gets you the best of all worlds. Pre built is shit, and you should only have something pre built when it's not a laptop where you can't really do much without a good portion of knowledge.
Building your own pc only requires a few tutorials and some knowledge of the different sizes of various components.

Building a laptop isn't easy as all that. It's plenty easier to just build a desktop.
If its a laptop you want then go for dell. But it's pricey, and chances are a waste of money.

Depends on the components you're using. It can be cheaper, but if you don't watch it, you can end up shelling out a lot of cash. Plus, like I said, you've got to know what you're doing. It is possible to install components that aren't quite compatible, which can really screw things up. And you have to keep yourself grounded while you're putting it together, as it's possible to fry the components with static.

I agree with Silverpaperplate. There are lots of tutorials around for building your own PC, heck, even my magazine came with a free one.

You can also cobble together a top-end computer for less than £1000. Not sure about laptops though.

Sorry if this goes Off topic too much. But why do you want a gaming Laptop anyway? Why not a desktop?

I just edited my post, I meant, as Polo said, a desktop. A laptop is not easy to custom build.

I would touch a Dell, they're all pretty shit over here. I'd go for HP.

Also bear in mind that unless you get a laptop which is geared towards gaming, like an overpriced Alienware, it's not going to compete with a desktop.

    In depth knowledge? Nigga please.

    Step 1: www.newegg.com
Step 2: Click applicable piece of hardware
Step 3: Filter through Guided Search
Step 4: Sort by Best Rating/Most Reviews
    Step 5: Add to cart
Step 6: Repeat step 2 for each additional component.

As for expense, it's dependent on how loose you are with money. I've built $500 systems that can run circles around $3000 systems.

HP is a good one if you stick to Microsoft Office. Go further an it crashes for no reason.

Well if you want it for gaming I recomemend to not to look at the type of the laptop. Only look at the hard disk, video card etc..
I think the best laptop for gaming is the Alienware.......but it is TOO EXPENSIVE!

So after you made this thread asking about it, you decided not to get a laptop after all?

    Thread = Redundant now.

I think you mean ASUS....they're coming out with some really BA computers now for gaming.
You can find those here http://usa.asus.com/index.aspx

If your looking into Dell they have there XPS versions and also they own Alienware now so....I mean you said you had a choice of anything lol.

On a side note now -a-days you can customize anything and make it good...well for the most part.
