    Default The Dreamtime

    (This is go-aheaded.)

(I'm not really sure if that's the right prefix.)

Every night, DQers sleep silently in their houses. Sometimes they sleep happily.
    Sometimes the have nightmares.

    Sometimes, their dreams are collective.

And what if, as if in a curse, this happened night after night? Collective dream after collective dream?

Would the average DQer be able to stand it?

This happened, once. Each time, the members would dream the same dream as the first one asleep. Each would be literrally in the same dream.

This is the story of those bizarre nights.

Okay, this isn't realtime. Dreams will last until the initial dreamer wakes.

    Roles:

Initial dreamer: This person is randomly selected from participants and gets to invent the dream for that night. They can cause huge things to happen in the dreams and the dream ends when they wake up.

Nightmares: The Nightmares are the creatures of nightmares that are, in fact, dreamers who are scared. These are randomly selected.

Angelia: Even in a nightmare, there are angels to protect. For every large, collective dream, there is an assortment of dreamers that dream as randomly selected Angelia.

Dreamers: Normal dreamers. They can cause dreamlike things to happen, but nothing huge.

    Time:

Sleepy time: This is when members are falling asleep. It pretty much lasts until the Initial Dreamer falls asleep and the dream begins.

Dreamtime: The night as you sleep and dream. Need I say more?

The Waking Day: You interact during The Waking Day. This lasts between rounds, as roles are assigned. Any interactions are allowed, but this is the world of reality. No dreamlike events during The Waking Day are allowed.

This is roleplayed. You will get a number when you join. This number determines your role when random selection occurs.

This sounds cool. Should we base the dreams off dreams we've actually had?

I think the idea is that the Initial Dreamer decides what happens in the dreams, like a DM. So if you're the Initial Dreamer then yeah, I guess you could.

I think I'm going to start the game now. If anybody else wants to join, they can, but for this round they can only be Normal Dreamers. From a suggention, I'm using random.org

    Initial Dreamer: 9 (That's sgt_Angua.)
    Nightmares: 4, 3.
    Angelia: 8(YAAAAY), 2.

This makes sgt_Angua the Initial dreamer. (You make the dream and the large events of the dream.)
Varth and Inretrospect are the nightmares. (Guys, you're dream demons. Do whatever demons in dreams that hunt down dreamers do.)
Username and I are the Angelia. (We have to protect dreamers and the Initial Dreamer when they are in over their heads, and we sort of watch over them like guardian angels.)
All other participants are normal Dreamers.

Sleepy Time. Waiting for sgt_ Angua's post. (Unless I'm wrong and sgt_Angua didn't actually join.)

(This is based on a dream I had. I wonder how it will end this time.)

Angua tries to avoid looking out of place as she tries to find a way out of the dark corridor, and the building. This was another gang’s territory and they wouldn’t hesitate to use her as a way of sending a message to her own gang. So far she’s gone unnoticed in the crowd, but it’s only a matter of time if she can’t leave.

Angua sees two identical blond men in suits, towering over the crowd: the Turtle Brothers. If they see her, she’ll be in trouble.

She searches frantically for a way out, or somewhere to hide, but cannot find either. Angua has to stand by the pool and hope that the crowd will be enough cover while the Turtle Brothers try to intimidate everyone.

(People who have not posted yet are welcome to put themselves in the crowd.)

Warren wakes up in bed with a rather odd feeling. He has a salty-iron taste in his throat, for starters, and there’s something small, hard, and pointy stuck uncomfortably between his tongue and the floor of his mouth. When he reaches inside to remove the irritant, it eludes his fingers, slipping down the moist and slippery flesh of the palates and gums until it comes to the corner of his left cheek. This continues for several minutes until Warren finally grows tired of the game and attempts to spit the offending object into the palm of his open hand.

Nothing comes out. The object clings inside Warren’s mouth like a tick or a leech, with its pointed tips pinching ever-so-gently into his flesh. The sensation is neither comfortable nor actually painful, only a little unsettling; Warren nervously reaches once again into his mouth and finally manages to take hold of the thing stuck in there—it has four tiny points, but most of the rest of its surface is smooth and rounded. He closes his eyes and tugs the thing gently from the interior of his jawline. Half-seriously, Warren is worried that it will still cling to the inside of his cheek, pulling off an enormous chunk of his face if it leaves at all…

The worry is ridiculous, of course, and the object comes free without much trouble. Warren raises it up to eye level and studies it meticulously.

It’s a tooth, Warren realizes, startled. But… haven’t I lost all my baby teeth already? This doesn’t make sense…

Four full-length white roots run down from each bottom corner of the slightly-bloodstained tooth, and almost involuntarily Warren reaches inside his mouth again to run a quick dental roll call. He’s missing one of his wisdom teeth—he tongues the sunken spot where the tooth used to be, tasting a far more intense salty-iron flavor as he does so.

Warren begins to panic. Why did this happen? What’s going on? Why—

His questions suddenly seem unimportant as the loose tooth in his hand crumbles into white powder. The bloody saliva that had previously covered the tooth now begins to glow fluorescent crimson, and the entire mess gathers itself into a tiny storm of snow-white powder and blood-red lightning. Warren watches, transfixed, as the storm becomes spherical, sprouts tiny fairy wings, and flutters out of his hand. The tooth-creature reminds him (oddly, he thinks to himself) of Navi the Fairy from Ocarina of Time, only red instead of blue.

<Hello Warren,> Red Navi says, cheerfully projecting a childlike voice into Warren’s subconscious. <Let’s go on a quest together!>
