View Full Version : Reputation system

So, how exactly does the reputation system work? So far, what I can figure out (and I'm probably wrong) is that you start out with 10 points, admin can add or take away 4, mods 3, and regular members 1 per post.
I'm still trying to figure out the other stuff.

Thanks for deducting this user's reputation!
And that means you, Silence.

What is the green card below the name? And how would you check that?

I've been wondering what that was.

It's your reputation. If you hit that scale thing, it tells you what your score is.

Users with a higher reputation get a higher reputation modifier.
This means you are able to add or give away more rep to other users.
Everyone is level, including administrators.
For every 1000 posts, you will get +1 modifier.
For every 100 reputation points, you will get +1 modifier.
For every 365 days, you will get +1 modifier.
You must have 50+ posts and 10+ reputation before your hits will count on others.
The ranks are as follows:
-99999
-50 can only hope to improve
-10 has a little shameless behaviour in the past
0 is an unknown quantity at this point
10 is on a distinguished road
20 is making positive progress
50 will become famous soon enough
150
250
350
450
550
650
1000
1500
2000
The others I'll leave for people to wait and see. Before we go around modifying values we have to give it about a month for the values to start normalising and people to be comfortable using the system before we can tweak it accurately. I dunno we might even take some suggestions on board for phrases.

Sounds simple. Working plans are simple.

For some reason i don't really care about this reputation thing so I'm gonna leave it

I dont really like it. Infraction points work just as well. I think this rep thing is gunna turn us into another newgrounds. we ain't supposed to blam people. everybody should have equal footing. This brings back the issue with the post count. these things are status symbols. things that society uses to get better than somebody else. People really start to get big egos and when two of them collide, the shit hits the fan. plus those with the better status think that any way they talk to or act twards others is justified by that.

Let the idea be, we'll see how it turns out first, then we can critizize it when that time comes.
One question: My idioticness needs to know, where will we be able to view the reputation points?

My god... post count ego!? WHAT, WHERE, WHE- Oh wait...
If you think people get big headed about it, guess what you can do, it's called rate them down. : D
But seriously, they don't. I don't think I've seen anyone get big headed over reputation.

Suggestion! Could there be an option to see how many points said user has? Or is this option already around?

Nope. Only your own. With the others, you just get *person* is on a distinguished road. No numbers.

Actually, if you hover your mouse over the green card, you only see the phrase. However, if you press the scale button on your own post you get to see the reputation points assignd to that post, along with your own reputation point.
For everyone nay saying... Stop being such pussies :) Social experiments are fine, mandatory in a growing community, in fact, and - honestly - is there anyone here who actuallys gives a shit about post counts? Part from the usual "WOOT! It's my #Genergic Number# post!" I don't see people making a big deal about it. Me? I'm more annoyed with people's "Member since 200-whatever" tags. Those are just sad, and makes me feel sorry for all of mankind. God bless.

This might be just me, but I think the system is doomed to fail. Not because the reputation system is flawed or anything, just because of apathy.
Like I said, it might be just me, but I'm not going to have the dedication to click the little scales icon every single time I see a post that I like or don't like; I've only done it to one post so far, and that was really more because I was curious than anything else. :/
Just my opinion, but there 'tis.

We had a fully functional reputation system on Ichigoland. I don't see the issue with trying new things.

I agree in that its not exactly user friendly at the moment. In the next update I'll look into cleaning up its look/usability.
I can stop people from posting negative feedback as well, only positive.
I know the idea is a bit daunting, but I'm just hoping that those who contribute positively to the website get rewarded for doing so.

To be honest, i don't like reputation system, it tends to result in people flaming at others for their lower reputation power. It's shit! Like Net said, lets hope some users can contribute positively.

I do like the idea of it being a rewards system, not a punishment system.
So I have disabled negative feedback for all regular users.
Admin/Mods can still post negative feedback though.

ya in your profile you can find out how many you have.
To lazy to look at page one (I use 40 post per page)
And i am most likely guessing you knew this.

I actually like the idea of this. It was pretty cool on Ichigoland...though I'm probably bias cause I had one of the lower post counts yet one of the highest amounts of points...it was kinda funny xD
I prefer reps to post counts any day.
On Ichigoland it was like how long your post was I think and you could donate points to other members...
like: "only a few words" got you about I dunno? 0.05?
and a paragraph (or probably about 5 lines+) or so got you 5. Which I think was the max for a post...unless my memory has failed me...
The fact I kinda remember is sad...

I have lowered the amounts for all of the 10+ reputation levels by at least half, some nearly a third of what they were previously.
You won't notice a big difference now but hopefully in about 3 months people will start getting their second bar. Thats at 100pts, and there are a few people at 30+ and many more approaching it.

I feel pretty meh towards the whole rep thing. I guess the most it could do is give the newer members an idea of what another person is like in the forum. Otherwise I don't really see anything happening with this, bad or good. I guess we'll never know until we try though.
