View Full Version : Some things with DQ...

This is just me bitching about a couple of things that annoy me when using the forums.
1. Page drop.
So. You click the little arrow that says 'Go to Last Post'. Page loads, showing the last post. But as you scroll up to read a couple of the other posts, the page finishes loading and drops back down to that last post.
At least, that's how I think it works.
This can be tiresome when you're reading something long (read: Vampire Jade) or when there's a picture loading that you didn't spot and then FWOOM! back to the bottom.
My next complaint gets even more petty, so LAST ONE ALIVE, LOCK THE DOOR!
2. No, you HAVEN'T read the thread. My records say so.
So. You read a thread. You roll your eyes and don't bother to reply.
You exit your web browser or close it by accident.
When you open it again later, your subsciptions pop up, and apparently you read none of them.
The annoying thing here is that you're not exactly sure which threads are new and which are just vBulletin just throwing them back at you.
And if you're still reading, you're a legend.

also, I think you should be able to post images directly from your computer, rather than it being required to be on another site.

1,
Just some things about vBulletin, if you edit the code, it basically "voids the warranty" so if anything goes wrong, vBulletin won't help, or at least they don't have to even try.
Consequently I'm not willing to modify the code for those reasons. Its only very slightly inconvenient and its going to be like that for a while so get used to it.
2,
edit:
You exit your web browser or close it by accident.
When you open it again later, your subsciptions pop up, and apparently you read none of them.
"read" threads are done through your Browser's cookies, so if you change your computer or browser, or your browser automatically wipes the DQ cookies when you close that window, you won't receive the desired effect.
I can change that so it stores it all in the database, however it may cause the forums to take a small performance hit, your threads will load possibly a millisecond slower, etc.
3,
Damian; There are plenty of websites that will host your images for you, use them.

We're not an image hosting website.

(A whole MILLISECOND? Is that code speak for 'a long time'?)
Well, if they're not going to be fixed in the immediate future, then this thread may as well be locked.

My post count isn't rising when I post.

Your post count isn't rising when you post because you didn't read the RULES in some of the forum sections you have posted in.

Actually, to make the threads not appear new, you have to first go back to the section of the forums that the thread is in that you're reading, then to the main forum index.
Your post count isn't rising when you post because you didn't read the RULES in some of the forum sections you have posted in.
Not true. SPAMZ and the Entertainment Zone are the two sections of the forums that don't add to your post count.

WHAT?! That's one of the two reasons the helpdesk is in Entertainment! SO we get posts!
We've been screwed Waddles.

Marrden what I meant by what I said was that if he'd bothered to read the rules surrounding the SPAMZ and DQ Entertainment sections, he'd know that his post count doesn't go up in those sections.
Though on a second look, I couldn't find the notes. I'll get sherlock.
