View Full Version : Tawl Makes an Update

I'm making another update regarding Text RPGs.. Yeah, yeah, what a surprise. I'll give you a few moments so you can find your shoes which were just blown off.

Basically over the last few weeks I've noticed a trend with Text RPGs on the DQ forums. It seems people are flocking to have their own ideas put to paper, but nobody is attempting to stay committed to the ones which they joined are active. (The exception probably being Vart with An Adventure You'd Kill For) And as a result, most of the major RPGs have died.

Basically the major ones which have been lost are:
- The Isles of Sepso
- City in the Sky
- Quarantine

And there is little commitment in the remaining ones.

So first of all, I'd like to ask the question, has the novelty of having Text RPGs simply worn off and people are looking for the new field to frolic in?

Secondly, here is a list of things you need to do if you choose to join an RPG.

Being an RPG Creator (GameMod):
- You need to be regular with story posts. You're character is the main and you advance the story in the direction you want it to go, and at the pace you want it to be. If you stop advancing the story, other players will have nothing to do.
- You need to stay committed. If you aren't going to keep your own RPG alive, then don't bother making one in the first place.

Being an RPG Player:
- You need to be able to keep up with the pace of the story otherwise you will be left behind.
- If you are going to be absent for a period of time, then let the GM or another player know so your character can be controlled on your behalf.
- If you plan on leaving the RPG, find a reason to remove or kill your character in the story. Not only does that help serve as a plot element, but it will prevent other players from wondering why you no longer seem to care.

Sometimes life kicks in and we can't always be active, I'm a perfect shining example of that, but don't just let things flounder. It is important to communicate with those playing, as they are dedicating time to the story, and it will only annoy them if someone decides they can no longer be bothered with no notice, as it is a waste of everyone's time.

Well, Gyohdon's is potentially a nice RPG. All it needs is a good storyline and dedication.

Same could be said about Polo's. It's incredibly well structured and organised, but it hasn't had much dedication either.

Now it's beginning to be rushy on the FrontPage.

Okay know this will help with the RP's.
But what would real help is a some RP guides.

It has been oh most half a year.

some of us don't remember them. and the new guys are to lazy to go on google and look at 500000000000 pages of junk hoping some one made a copy some where on the web.

My point is that we do not have a guide.

tawl baisically made a guide in his first post. i think the trend with text RPs has started because of the new school year, since alot of people are going to be more focused on school and stuff. had it been summer, i think more people would have the time to spend on the forums and more people would be playing RPs

The original guides we had written before they were lost in the forum revert were:
- RPG Playing Tips
- Character Creation and Interaction
- Creating an RPG World

Or something along those lines. Do you want those rewritten and reposted? Although I don't see how having those guides redone would re-spark interest.

Well, my RPG is a little lost too.

I think Text RPGs are getting a little old, that's why I give up on most of them.

I'll try to play on Rps if I can still enjoy it.

Wow, it's amazing how those RPGs stop running their course.

Hmm, regarding RPG tips, advice and rules I have found myself with a quite nice book about this subject. If you guys would give me some time (Since my life is prtty much about school at the moment) I can get around to a thread. I haven't really had the chance to be all too committed to Polo's RPG which I must say has been nagging me for quite a while.

Perhaps we should decrease the number of active RPGs?

This might be because in Varth's RP we play characters who have already been created and have their own unique personality. So maybe the difference is that a lot of people don't enjoy developing their own character?

It may be just me, but I think this is just a problem of size.
Virtually every site I've been to with a roleplay section goes through the whole school summer phase. Problem is, here, there just isn't enough people to keep everything from drying up for months at a time.

not true.... i like to see my guy get shot to death but not die.

Strangely i play as if i am a Emo or something when it comes to RP yet i dis like the life style.

Also to tawl thing about how would guides help.
I think that running around in a dark maze with no light then finding a high end flash light would spark alot of hope in to some one.
Also this may or may not make the mod job easier. You will not have to tell noobs how to RP.

any ways it's your guys free time. I am just saying that guides have a high chance of helping in my book.

ok i am going real soon.

so from what you are saying is to shorten the number of RP might help.
This is true it might.
and the reason you give are some what logically.

Not exactly. In fact, I suspect that'd make things worse. Most people who roleplay usually enjoy variety, things to choose from.

...And, of course, by everyone, I mean me. Its basically the same thing, from my perspective.

No, I think we just plain need more people.
Or at least a small group with no life whatsoever.

I would have joined Polo's RPG since Sepso ended, but I felt a bit awkward joining a thread already in it's fifth page, I'm weird like that.

Right, I've made an executive call and closed City in the Sky and Quarantine. While Quarantine may be re-opened at a much later date, which I remain sceptical over, CITS has failed.

Unless you have an RPG which is incredibly original, or you can prove that you actually have the ability to run one without buggering off after 5 pages, then we are not allowing the creation of new ones at this time.
