View Full Version : The quest for patience

I am

almost totally certain that about 80+% of the population have very little

patience when it comes to putting hard work into something, and I am

definately somebody with very little patience. I am not talking in a

tolerance meaning, I mean when it means putting hard work into something,

e.g. Animation or studying for tests. Personally I can sit down to revise and

be going for about 5 minutes and already be extremely bored of revising and

have absolutely no interest in it and give up on it and go and eat or play a

game

The reason I bring up this topic is mainly when it comes

to animation, when I bring up Flash and open up a new document I'm instantly

thinking "ahh ffs, I'm going to have to put effort into something and I

don't see the damned point!" so I usually close it, but rarely force myself

to cunger up something pointless and crappy in about 5 minutes and then close

the program and never go back to that animation. I must have about 100

unfinished tests and animations on my hard drive, and only 1 finished

project, that I can think of off the top of my head.

Personally, when

I get impatient it's usually once I've just finished something I'm proud

of, like I'd finish doing a really good bit of animation, then start to do

another scene/character and almost feel sick of doing it and close it to

never finish it.

Do you believe that patience is something that your

born with or is natural to you, or something you must learn by straining

yourself almost like exercise? I'd love to have patience like Oscar or Samus

to be able to put so much hard work into an animation and be able to keep

going to the end and then carry on to make more great pieces of work. I'd do

anything to get that patience

Patience is something that you have to train. Because a lot of

families spoil there kids or give into their needs so they expect things

fast.
That's just my opinion

So you believe it's natural, but can be learnt? Do you think

that if I was to force myself to do about 2 or 3 hours of animation flat then

after that I wouldn't get sick of it again?

I think patience is

definitely something that you have to beat into yourself. I takes discipline

and hardwork, but eventually you will become patient. It

usually pays off too, because if you stick with something and create

something that you are proud of it'll give you a nice feeling.

You'll learn that you're not going to get anywhere

unless you try.

Whatever it be, programming, music, animation, getting

a girlfriend.

Unless you try, you're never going to get it happen to

you, with animation, you just have to plan ahead, plan out everything how you

think you want it, as you go along you'll change things, but if you wrote

down the idea from the start you'll find it easier to follow on through with

since you know how you want it to end.

J.K Rowling re-wrote chapters

and chapters of her first book and was turned down by her first 2 or 3

publishers before getting one that would simply accept her. She was

persistent and her days of writing in a coffee shop are memories of the

past.

She stuck to it and now she's one of the richest and famous

people in the world. She didn't make stuff up as she went along either, she

knows whats going to happen, plan ahead, it helps, alot.

Thanks :) I've only ever planned one movie, and

after 2 out of the 6 scenes that I started animating I gave up on the

original plans and did totally different to what the plans said. I was way

too over ambitious on the plans, I planned stuff I'd never be able to

animate, because I'd never have had the patience/skills, but they were good

plans, if anybody wants them then they can take them off me and make it

properly, I'd like to see it done properly.

I personally hate

planning, I like animating as I do it :p

You should get a close friend with a lot av

material. Then he or she can force you to animate. ;D

Gotta agree with Netrosis here. I'm sure you'll feel motivated

if you have an idea you really like and want to animate. If you can't work

on it, take a break from it, then start when you've got the spirit up again

:D.

Listening to good music, like a song you'll use in the animation

also helps. You can think out what will happen at what parts in the song and

then time it to the music.

My clanmate is my sound

slav- helper, if I ever get chance to animate properly rofl.
