For v. 6.0 we decided that DQ was in need of more than simply software updates. So because of this, we have, among other things, been working on getting the showoff section its own rules and guidelines thread (http://forums.deletionquality.net/showthread.php/13232-SHOWOFF-RULES-AND-GUIDELINES)!

Most of the rules and guidelines you may already know, but there are also some new things that I would like to address here:

Giving unhelpful criticism is now a violation of rules
This basically means you cannot criticize a piece of work by saying it sucks without telling the artist why and preferably how they may improve.

Reacting in an immature fashion to criticism is a violation of rules
You cannot dismiss criticism unless you can give a good argument as to why you should. Dismissing criticism because the critic is not as skilled as you is an invalid argument.

We encourage fewer large art threads and more individual threads
This in particular I can sense will get a reaction. It is not a violation of rules to have an art thread, but by having one, the artist may lose a lot of valuable exposure which we think is a shame! Art threads are great for work-in-progress art and smaller sketches, but if you feel something is really great, an individual thread is a far better choice and gives you a better chance of getting your art featured!

I do suggest you check out the rest of the thread! Please tell us what you think and post any questions you may have!

Furthermore, if anyone have any good suggestions for the currently empty "tutorials, guides and resources" section, do not hesitate to post a few links!

Isn't it a lil' bit harsh?

Sounds like fair rules, I'm also glad we're allowed to keep our previous art threads. Although I do support the idea of making multiple art threads :]

EDIT May I suggest Tinypic for this thread? (http://forums.deletionquality.net/showthread.php/13232-SHOWOFF-RULES-AND-GUIDELINES?p=328639&viewfull=1#post328639) (at the bottom of your post)

Tinypic has been added!
Banhammor, the reason we need to keep people from being unhelpful or dismissive is to prevent the frustrated comments that leads to.
There's nothing worse than spending a lot of time analyzing a piece of work and criticizing it just to be told that you're full of crap.
And for an artist it can be quite hurtful to spend a lot of time on something you're proud of, especially if it's a milestone in your artistic development, and then be told it just sucks and you should stop making art.

If you ask me, that is more harsh than punishing people for not thinking about what consequences their words may have.

Flash embedding is a really bad idea for forums. It's way safer to embed YouTube videos or add links to the flash files.

I thought about making a thread that organized all tutorials and resources into sections but wanted to play it safe in case i was breaking any rules.

Is it too late to do that? i think it could be very helpful.

This is pretty much amazing, thank you for all of those resources. I agree that it'll be a good idea to have them sorted into categories. If you want to make a thread in the Showoff section you're welcome to do so. I'll even Sticky it for you.

I like these new rules; it seems they may yet solve a lot of problems.
Also, I'm glad I checked this thread because Shinoi made me laugh enough to shake off a very blah day.
