Hi all,

Just posting some new art into the art section. Again a 3D assignment from school. The environment turned out the best in my opinion while the frog could need some work but I thought it was art-page worthy :)

Leave a comment. See you around folks.

NICE. Friggin awesome work dude, the background looks amazing, and I like the cartoony design for the frog. Reminds me of that Rango film, realistic animation with cartoony character desigs. Do you ever intend on makign an animation with that level of art detail?

Thanks guys.

We'll be having an entire four-week course in 3D animation in December/January, so yeah some sort of tiny animation will be made :) Luckily we have a render-farm at school, I wouldn't be able to render a full project on my own.

The frog looks quite cartoon like and unrealistic... however, I have no complaints about the background. Good work. :)

That quality can make Crysis (2?) jealous

Ohhh sexy. Textures are awesome. Mental Ray greatly added to the realistic nature of the images too. And the frog is, of course, cool.
Maybe you should try using tesselation if it is possible? I saw it gives great results. (Though it is only available on renderfarms containing OpenGL 4 or DX11) Showdown:

Hah nice work Oscar. I really like the textures of everything, especially the tree is impressive.

The pupils of tree frogs flattens horizontally. You should also be a bit more careful with the limbs - Frog legs don't bend as sharply nor does the belly-skin cover the entire upper or lower part of their legs. The eyes are also a little too big in proportion to the body. Lower lip of the frog is shot a bit too far ahead from the upper lip, which is usually the part that sticks out the most. I guess it's also worth mentioning that in most cases the body's largest part usually is the belly rather than the ribcage and the head is rather small, only looking big due to the eyes.

Amazing Oscar!!!....Just one question is the backround edited from a photograph...cause it's just so realistic 0.o keep it up!

Thanks for the crits KT :) I agree with your point-outs. The sharp bends are caused by the skin modifier which I never really had the time to put as much time on as I wanted to. I'm certain I'll be quicker and more efficient with that next time I rig something though (Y).

The actual jungle you see in the background is a blurred photo, while the branch it sits on is 3D.

The video you're showing is just a showoff for the DirectX 11 feature, which is used in games by your GPU. I could ofcourse tesselate it in Max directly(TurboSmooth) or set tesselation at render to increase if that's what you mean.

Aah. Interesting, I was not aware of this specific species being formed like that. I suppose I can take some parts of my criticism back.

1. Yes, it is a showoff. A quite impressive showoff though.
2. Yes, the latter is exactly what I mean, as it can, possibly, increase realism. (Or maybe, the former, if it looks better)

wow it took me a while to get it in my head that the background is animated and not a photo. Nice work

The background IS a photo. What is not is the tree and the frog.

Probably won't have much of an effect I think. I'd need to rework the materials completely instead, as well as redo the skinning/rig.

Damn Oscar that's some incredible 3D work, i love it:)

Kinda looks like your frog just swallowed something a bit too big and is trying to hold it down :P

Just look at its concentration O_O

Looking good Oscar. The frog is a bit off, but others have already pointed out the problems there, so there's nothing for me to add.
